Atlantic City, NJ - Kermit “The Killer” Cintron lived up to his nickname on Saturday, annihilating Walter Matthysse in a second-round knockout to retain his IBF welterweight title.

Cintron (28-1, 25 KO’s), a 27-year-old from Puerto Rico, knocked Matthysse down late in the first round and again as the second round opened before finishing him off just 29 seconds into the second round with a left-right combo to the head, sending Matthysse sprawling back to the canvas for good.

Matthysse (26-2), who hadn’t been knocked down in his career prior to the match, never stood a chance. The 28-year-old Argentinian was fighting for the first time since October of 2006, the longest layoff of his career, and his dead legs showed.

Scott Dixon firstone indy tennesse postpones graffiti tommy mac

Lebanon, TN - Saturday night’s Firestone Indy 200 IndyCar race at the Nashville Superspeedway was postponed due to numerous rain showers. The race has been rescheduled for today at 1 p.m. (et).

The race was about 10 minutes away from the green flag when an isolated rain shower entered the Lebanon area. The rain was heavy for almost an hour before it finally let up allowing for the track drying process to begin.

The track was mostly dry and almost ready for racing when another rain shower plagued the track around 9:10 p.m. After this rain shower, two more passed through the area. The persistent rain caused IRL officials to postpone the race at approximately 10:30 p.m.

When the race gets underway today, Scott Dixon will lead the field to the green flag for 200 laps of high-speed racing. The pole victory was Dixon’s second of the season and eighth of his IndyCar career.

Dario Franchitti will start alongside Dixon on the front row.

Franchitti will look to expand his lead in the point standings and continue a great season, so far. The Englishman has three wins, including the Indianapolis 500, and has yet to finish below seventh. Franchitti has been even better over the last three weeks winning two times and finishing third in the other.

The Edinburgh, Scotland native owns a 47-point lead over Dixon. Franchitti’s Andretti Green Racing teammate Tony Kanaan is in third place, 75 points back.

Toronto, Canada - Stars Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore combined to give the United States an early lead but Austria rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory in the quarterfinals of FIFA Under-20 World Cup on Saturday.

Austria’s Erwin Hoffer scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute - two minutes after he entered as a sub. Hoffer also scored the tiebreaking goal in a 2-1 win over Gambia earlier in the tournament after entering as a sub.

Hoffer’s goal came after a free kick following the ejection of United States’ Anthony Wallace, who received his second yellow card of the game.

Austria plays the winner of Saturday’s quarterfinal between Spain and the Czech Republic in the semifinals on Wednesday. The U.S. was eliminated.

Altidore, who plays for Red Bull New York in Major League Soccer, put the U.S. in front in the 15th minute. Adu got space on the left side and crossed into the box where Altidore scored off a header just inside the left post.

Austria’s Rubin Okotie tied the game late in the first half with his second goal of the tournament. He scored when Sebastian Proedl’s initial shot slipped away from U.S. goalie Chris Seitz, who plays for Real Salt Lake in MLS, and Okotie beat a U.S. defender to the ball.

Altidore, 17, finished the tournament with a team-high four goals. Adu, who also plays for Real Salt Lake, had three goals and two assists in the Cup.

Green leads Clark at John Deere Classic

Nathan Green john deere classic leading golf betting odds grafitti tommy mac

Silvis, IL - Nathan Green shot a three-under 68 Saturday to take a one-shot lead over Tim Clark heading into the final round of the John Deere Classic.

Both players are looking for their first PGA Tour win at a tournament where seven of the last 10 champions have been first-timers.

“I’ve got to put this into perspective. It’s not life or death,” said Green, who was at 15-under 198.

But it is a big deal, for both players.

Green is a 32-year-old Australian playing just his second season on the PGA Tour. For him, a win would validate years of toiling on the Nationwide Tour.

Clark, meanwhile, is one of the most successful players in PGA Tour history without a victory. Getting his first at TPC Deere Run could mean a trip to the British Open next week.

And while Clark owns more experience than a host of other players looking for their first win Sunday, he doesn’t feel like it gives him any unique advantage.

“You can throw me in that same boat,” said Clark, still dealing with a neck injury and playing for the first time since the Colonial. “Everyone out here on the leaderboard is a great player, so it’s certainly going to take a low round tomorrow for someone to win.”

Saturday, Clark birdied his last three holes for a five-under 66, finishing with a 13-foot putt at the 18th to pull within a shot of Green. He was alone in second place at 14-under 199.

Jonathan Byrd and Kenny Perry — both multiple PGA Tour winners — joined winless Brian Gay to lead a pack of 10 more players who were within five shots of Green’s lead.

Byrd shot a six-under 65 and was alone in third place at 13-under 200. Perry (68) and Gay (66) were another shot further back at 201.

Before Clark’s late birdies vaulted him into second place, Byrd had emerged as Green’s closest challenger.

The overnight leader, Green had it easy early on. But Byrd made it a struggle late.

Green knocked a 130-yard approach shot to two feet at No. 6, setting up a birdie that gave him a seemingly comfortable four-shot lead. He made another birdie at No. 8 — his fourth birdie on a spotless front nine, — but would soon see his lead completely erased.

Byrd had made seven birdies over his first 15 holes, the last coming from eight feet at the 15th. And when Green stumbled to consecutive bogeys from the 11th, they were tied.

But not for long.

Green followed his bogeys with back-to-back birdies, rolling in a 15-foot putt at the 13th and sinking a three-footer at the 14th to climb three shots ahead of Byrd, who had found the water and closed with a bogey ahead at the 18th.

“I didn’t really know what was going on,” Green admitted.

But he would soon figure it out. After making a mess of the 17th hole on the way to a bogey, Green strolled up the 18th fairway with a one-shot lead. He two-putted from 29 feet for a closing par, preserving it.

Things came tougher for the Australian than they did Friday, when he fired a 63 to take the overnight lead.

“I’ve been a lot more patient than normal, but today was a bit more of a struggle,” he said. “I missed some makable putts.”

Billy Mayfair, Neal Lancaster, Carl Pettersson, Jeff Gove, Troy Matteson, Kevin Sutherland and Jason Dufner completed the group of players who were within five shots of the lead.

“It’s probably going to turn out to be a bit of a shootout tomorrow,” said Clark.

Report: Dolphins WR Chambers drove while impaired

Chris Chambers DUI miami dolphins rumor monger graffiti tommy mac

Miami, FL - Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina early Saturday and charged with driving while impaired, a Miami newspaper reported.

The Miami Herald reported on its website Saturday that Chambers, the Dolphins’ top receiver, was arrested at 2:31 a.m. in Charlotte and released on a $1,750 bond.

This continues a less-than-stellar offseason for Dolphins players, as Chambers is the third Miami player to be arrested since the end of last season. Joey Porter, a free-agent addition, was arrested after punching Bengals tackle Levi Jones in a Las Vegas casino in March, and defensive tackle Fred Evans was arrested in Miami on June 23 for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest with violence, battery on a police officer and trespassing, according to the Herald.

Porter was not punished for his arrest, but Evans, who has been arrested twice in the past three months, was let go by the Dolphins.

Chambers, who will turn 29 in August, is entering his seventh season in the NFL, all with the Dolphins. He had 59 receptions for 677 yards and four touchdowns in 2006, a step down from 2005, when he hauled in 82 catches for 1,118 yards and 11 scores.
