MINNESOTA - 1B Justin Morneau (lung) left last game, expected to miss Saturday vs Florida. Morneau suffered a small contusion in his lung during a collision at home plate in the eighth inning Friday night. Morneau, who manager Gardenhire said was having trouble breathing after the incident, was taken from the locker room on a stretcher after the game. He was wearing an oxygen mask as he left, but was alert and fiddling with a personal communication device in his lap. X-rays and CT scans on his chest came back normal. Morneau stayed at the hospital overnight and is expected to be re-evaluated at Dolphin Stadium on Sunday.

MILWAUKEE - SS J.J. Hardy (back) missed last few games, downgraded to doubtful Saturday vs Kansas City. “I think I favored my knee a little bit and hurt my hip, and then I was favoring my hip the other day and my back hurts,” Hardy said. “My knee and my hip — they’re both fine. Now, it’s just a matter of getting my back right, and then hopefully it’s all in the past.” Manager Yost would rather rest Hardy to let him recover completely. Yost likely will sit Hardy on Saturday as well. “I don’t really want to, but I’m not going to be stupid and push him,” Yost said. “It’s really not too bad — nothing that I’m really too worried about,” Hardy said. “It’s just more precautionary.”

Final Score: Chicago Cubs 5, Chicago White Sox 1
Chicago, IL - Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-3, homered and drove in a pair and Carlos Zambrano allowed one run and three hits over eight innings, as the Cubs edged the White Sox, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game interleague set between the clubs at U.S. Cellular Field. Zambrano (8-6) tied a career-high with 12 strikeouts, and threw 113 pitches in the start. He recovered nicely from his previous outing, where he held the Padres hitless through 7 1/3 innings only to lose the no-hitter and the game. Alfonso Soriano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Cubs, who stopped a two-game slide. Felix Pie added a two-run single. Mark Buehrle (4-4) was the hard- luck loser, allowing only four hits and two runs over seven innings with four strikeouts. Paul Konerko went deep for the White Sox, who have dropped four of their last five.
Final Score: Toronto 9, Colorado 8 (10 innings)
Toronto, ON - John McDonald hit a two-run single in the 10th and Curtis Thigpen scored the winning run on catcher Chris Iannetta’s throwing error as the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Colorado Rockies, 9-8, in the first of a three-game interleague series at Rogers Centre. Troy Tulowitzki belted a two-run homer in the top of the 10th to put the Rockies ahead 8-6, but the Blue Jays loaded the bases in the home half on three straight one-out singles from Matt Stairs, Aaron Hill and Thigpen. McDonald then singled to left off Brian Fuentes (0-1), scoring Stairs and Hill. Matt Holliday threw to the plate and Iannetta fired to third to try and catch Thigpen but his throw went into left-field, allowing Thigpen to scurry home. Alex Rios, Adam Lind and Vernon Wells all homered for the Blue Jays, who have won two of three. Blue Jays starter Josh Towers went four-plus innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits. Brian Wolfe (1-0) pitched to one batter in the 10th to record his first major league win. Brad Hawpe also homered and Willy Taveras tripled for the Rockies, who lost for just the second time in nine games. Starter Jason Hirsh surrendered five runs on five hits in 4 1/3 frames.
Final Score: Florida 5, Minnesota 4
Miami, FL - Hanley Ramirez atoned for a big throwing error by crushing the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning as Florida edged Minnesota, 5-4, in the opener of a three-game interleague set at Dolphin Stadium. With two down in the frame, Ramirez turned on a Juan Rincon (2-1) pitch and belted the ball over the wall in left-center for his 10th homer on the year. Kevin Gregg came on to hurl a scoreless ninth to secure things for Florida and earn his 14th save of the season. Dan Uggla also homered for the Marlins, who won their third straight game. Miguel Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring double and Alfredo Amezaga finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Scott Olsen scattered eight hits and gave up two runs in six solid innings but received a no-decision. Armando Benitez (2-3) was credited with the win despite giving up two runs — one earned — in an inning of relief. Torii Hunter was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Twins, who snapped a modest two- game winning streak. Justin Morneau also drove in a run but left the game in the eighth inning after being shaken up in a collision at home plate. Boof Bonser started on the hill for Minnesota and allowed four runs on six hits in six innings.
Final Score: Washington 4, Cleveland 1
Washington, DC - Cristian Guzman finished 3-for-4 with a home run, as the Washington Nationals downed the Cleveland Indians, 4-1, to open a three-game interleague series at RFK Stadium. Brandon Watson, fresh off getting called up in lieu of a 43-game International League-record hitting streak, finished 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Nationals, who snapped a three- game losing streak. Felipe Lopez ended 3-for-4 in the win. Micah Bowie, who had won four straight decisions, allowed one run on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings before Saul Rivera (2-2) tossed a perfect sixth for the win and Chad Cordero threw a perfect ninth for his 12th save of the season. Luis Ayala got two outs in the fourth for his 2007 debut more than a year after blowing out his elbow in the World Baseball Classic. Jhonny Peralta finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Indians, who have lost two of three. Franklin Gutierrez ended 2-for-3 in the loss. Dominican right-hander Fausto Carmona (8-3), looking for a ninth win in his last 10 decisions, gave up three runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings for Cleveland.
Final Score: LA Dodgers 6, Tampa Bay 3
St. Petersburg, FL - Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with a triple, homer, two RBI and two runs scored as Los Angeles doubled up Tampa Bay, 6-3, in the first of a three-game interleague set at Tropicana Field. Derek Lowe (8-6) allowed five hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out five with one walk. Takashi Saito worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his 20th save. James Loney finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored for the Dodgers, winners in three of their last four. Russell Martin had two hits and drove in two runs, Jeff Kent collected a pair of hits and scored once, while Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier also chipped in two hits apiece. Tampa starter Andy Sonnanstine (1-2) gave up 10 hits and four runs over seven full innings. Delmon Young finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Devil Rays, who have lost three in a row. Carl Crawford added an RBI triple in defeat.
Final Score: NY Mets 9, Oakland 1
Flushing, NY - Tom Glavine picked up career win No. 296 thanks to his efforts both on the mound and at the plate, leading the New York Mets to a 9-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the first of three games at Shea Stadium. Glavine (6-5) tossed eight strong innings, allowing just the run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts for the Mets, who had dropped nine of 11 coming in. He also went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Glavine is now one shy of tying Bobby Mathews for 23rd on the all-time wins list. The performance was in sharp contrast to his last two outings, when he yielded a combined 16 earned runs. Shawn Green homered and finished with three RBI and Carlos Beltran also went deep en route to a two-run, two-RBI night. Lenny DiNardo (2-4) allowed six runs — two earned — over 5 1/3 frames for Oakland, which is still 13-7 in the month of June compared to the Mets’ mark of 5-18. Shannon Stewart’s fourth home run of the year accounted for the A’s offense.
Final Score: Detroit 5, Atlanta 0
Atlanta, GA - Kenny Rogers made a successful season debut, allowing two hits over six solid innings, as Detroit sent the Atlanta Braves to their third straight shutout loss, 5-0, in the opener of a three-game series. Rogers (1-0), who tied for the club lead with 17 wins last year, underwent surgery late in March to remove a blood clot from his left arm and was placed on the 60-day disabled list shortly before the season began. The 42-year-old left-hander, a native of Savannah, GA, struck out five without walking a batter, and was lifted after throwing 75 pitches. It’s been a rough week for the Braves, who were blanked by Boston 4-0 on Tuesday and 11-0 on Wednesday at Turner Field. Atlanta, which hasn’t scored in its last 28 innings, has been blanked in three consecutive games for the first time since April 20-22, 1988 (twice at Houston, once versus Cincinnati). Carlos Guillen hit a two-run double for the Tigers, who scored all their runs in the sixth inning to win their fifth straight overall. They’ve captured 10 of their last 12 on the road. Friday’s game featured a pitching matchup of two 200-game winners, but Rogers got the best of John Smoltz (8-4), who fanned seven, but gave up eight hits and five runs over six innings. Smoltz became Atlanta’s all-time leader in strikeouts with 2,861, passing Phil Niekro (2,855).
Final Score: Milwaukee 11, Kansas City 6
Milwaukee, WI - Corey Hart homered and drove in four runs as Milwaukee routed Kansas City, 11-6, in the opener of a three-game set at Miller Park. Hart finished 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and a run-scoring single for the streaking Brewers, who won their fourth in a row and for the eighth time in nine tries. Ryan Braun and Tony Graffanino also homered for Milwaukee. Jeff Suppan (8-7) lasted just five innings for the Brewers, allowing five runs on nine hits while walking two and fanning five but earned the win. Ryan Shealy was 2-for-4 with a two-run double for the Royals, who lost their third in a row. Mark Teahen finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jorge De La Rosa (4-9) was tattooed for seven runs on 10 hits in five innings. The struggling left-hander is now winless over his last eight outings (0-6).
Final Score: Texas 11, Houston 3
Arlington, TX - Sammy Sosa’s two-run home run in the fifth inning sparked an eight-run Texas rally, as the Rangers routed the Houston Astros, 11-3, in the opener of a three-game series. Sosa, who on Wednesday became the fifth member of the 600-homer club, finished 2-for-3 with four RBI while Marlon Byrd and Brad Wilkerson also homered for the Rangers, who won their third straight. Michael Young ended 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in the win. Kevin Millwood (4-6), coming off his first win since April 13, gave up three runs on nine hits with two strikeouts over six innings for Texas. Lance Berkman homered for Houston, which is 1-3 on a nine-game road trip after losing its series to the Angels. Mike Lamb went 2-for-4. Craig Biggio ended 1-for-5, and still needs seven more hits to become the 27th player in history to record 3,000 for his career. Woody Williams (3-10), on a four-game road losing streak, allowed five runs on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts over four-plus frames for Houston.
Final Score: Baltimore 7, Arizona 1
Phoenix, AZ - Daniel Cabrera took a no-hitter into the sixth and ended with a solid line to guide the Baltimore Orioles past the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Chase Field. Cabrera (6-8) ultimately allowed one run on two hits over six frames for Baltimore, which has won three in a row for interim manager David Trembley. Trembley’s club is playing well despite being rejected by reigning NL Manager of the Year Joe Girardi on Thursday and losing their on-field leader a day later. The Orioles placed shortstop Miguel Tejada on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of the left radius earlier in the day, a move that ends the fifth longest consecutive-game playing streak in major league history at 1,152 games. Brian Roberts homered and finished with three RBI, while Jay Gibbons knocked in a pair in a winning effort. Brandon Webb (7-5) had a rough outing thanks in part to some shoddy defense, allowing seven runs — three earned — over five innings for the Diamondbacks, who had won five of six coming in.
Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 5, Pittsburgh 4 (11 innings)
Anaheim, CA - Chone Figgins tripled with one out in the bottom of the 11th, and Orlando Cabrera followed with a game-ending RBI single to lift the LA Angels of Anaheim over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4, in the first game of a three-game interleague series at Angel Stadium. Reggie Willits had a career-high four hits, knocked in two runs and also scored once as the Angels won for the fifth time in six games. Cabrera finished with three hits - including a solo home run - and three RBI on the night, as every starter had at least one hit. Joe Saunders allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings in the start for the Angels, while Scot Shields (1-2) earned the win by tossing two innings of scoreless relief. Zach Duke yielded just one run on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings for Pittsburgh, which blew a 4-0 lead and lost its third straight game. Jonah Bayliss (4-3) was charged with the loss. Jason Bay hit a two-run homer for the Pirates, while Rajai Davis had a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs scored in the loss.
Final Score: NY Yankees 7, San Francisco 3
San Francisco, CA - Alex Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with two RBI, helping the New York Yankees down the Giants, 7-3, on a night Barry Bonds inched closer to Hank Aaron’s home run record. Bonds hit career home run No. 749, and now sits just six shy of Aaron’s mark. After an extended at-bat and with the count full leading off the eighth inning, Bonds turned on a Scott Proctor fastball and deposited it over the wall in right- center to bring his club within 6-3. Bonds has homered off 442 pitchers in his career, but his shot was as close as the Giants would get in the opener of the three-game set at AT&T Park. Melky Cabrera knocked in a pair for the Yankees, who were coming off a sweep at the hands of the Rockies. Derek Jeter extended his hit streak to 16 games with a 2-for-4 performance. Kei Igawa allowed two runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in his return to the major leagues. After bidding $26 million to negotiate with Igawa, then signing him to a five-year $20 million contract, the Yankees were bitterly disappointed with the results from their Japanese import. Igawa was 2-1 with a 7.63 ERA in six games (five starts) before they shipped him to Single-A Tampa on May 7. While Igawa got a no-decision in his return, Luis Vizcaino (4-1) picked up the win and Mariano Rivera worked the final 1 2/3 innings for his ninth save of the season. Matt Cain (2-8) continued his struggles, allowing five runs in five innings for San Francisco, which has lost eight in a row.
Final Score: Cincinnati 16, Seattle 1
Seattle, WA - Ken Griffey Jr. got standing ovations as if he never left the Emerald City, but being on the other side hurt for the Mariners on Friday as the Cincinnati Reds pounded Seattle, 16-1, in the opener of a three-game series. Griffey, who returned to Seattle for the first time since being dealt to Cincinnati in February 2000, is probably the best-known Mariner, bursting on the scene in 1989 and becoming a 10-time All-Star, nine- time Gold Glove winner and the 1997 AL MVP with the team. He also helped the Mariners to their first division title in 1995 and then an upset win over the New York Yankees in the Division Series. David Ross, who came into the game hitting .198 for the year, homered twice and tied a career-high with five RBI, as the Reds won for just the third time in nine games. Brandon Phillips had three hits, also hitting a pair of home runs, and drove in three. Josh Hamilton added a solo homer and Alex Gonzalez chipped in with a three-run double. Cincinnati, which limited the Mariners to three hits, also got an outstanding start from Aaron Harang (8-2), as he struck out seven over eight innings. Mike Gosling gave up a hit in the ninth. Seattle center fielder Ichiro Suzuki extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the fourth inning, but the Mariners were overwhelmed as Ryan Feierabend and Jason Davis combined to allow 14 hits and 16 runs over 5 2/3 innings. Feierabend (1-2), who was lifted after surrendering nine runs over 2 2/3 innings, was hit with the loss.
Final Score: Boston 2, San Diego 1
San Diego, CA - Daisuke Matsuzaka outdueled Greg Maddux as the Boston Red Sox edged the San Diego Padres, 2-1, in the first of a three- game interleague series between two of baseball’s top teams at Petco Park. Boston has baseball’s best record at 47-25, while San Diego came in with the NL’s best mark, but their third straight loss cost them first place in the West. The Padres (41-31) fell a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who beat Tampa Bay 6-3. Matsuzaka (9-5) yielded five hits and one run over six innings, striking out nine with five walks. Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth for his 17th save in 18 chances. Coco Crisp went 3-for-4 and Manny Ramirez had two hits and scored for the Red Sox, who have won three straight and 10 of 14. Maddux (6-4) went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out a pair. Jose Cruz Jr. had two hits and Michael Barrett had two hits and an RBI for the Padres, who have lost eight of 13.
Final Score: Philadelphia 6, St. Louis 0
St. Louis, MO - Chase Utley went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, as the Philadelphia Phillies moved into second place in the NL East with a 6-0 win over St. Louis. Ryan Howard collected two hits, scored a run and knocked in one for Philadelphia. Since his May 25 return from the DL, Howard is hitting .302 with 10 homers and 26 RBI. He’s also coming off a series in Cleveland in which he went 6-for-13 with a pair of homers and six RBIs. Jamie Moyer (7-5) yielded just seven hits over six shutout innings, walking two and striking out six for Philadelphia, which moved a half-game ahead of the Braves in the division and remained within two games of the first-place Mets. Aaron Miles, Juan Encarnacion and Chris Duncan had two hits apiece for St. Louis, which had its brief two-game winning streak halted and was shut out for the seventh time this season. Anthony Reyes (0-9), meanwhile, had another disastrous start for the Cardinals. The young right-hander, who holds a 6.64 ERA, allowed five runs and nine hits in just 4 1/3 innings en route to his 11th straight loss dating back to last September. In desperate need of a starter, the Cardinals acquired veteran left-hander Mike Maroth from Detroit earlier in the day. The 29-year-old owns a record of 5-2 with a 5.06 ERA in 13 starts this season and could be available as early as Saturday.
