tommy mac graffiti wall pizza play freebie sports pick betting odds mets vs dodgers

These two teams meet for the first time since last season’s National League division series in the opener of a three-game set Monday at Dodger Stadium.

The Mets (36-25) swept that best-of-five series, outscoring the Dodgers 19-11. New York lost in seven games to eventual World Series champion St. Louis in the NL championship series.

Catcher Paul Lo Duca hit .455 (5-for-11) with three RBIs for the Mets in the NLDS, and first baseman Carlos Delgado hit .429 (6-for-14) and drove in two runs. New York also won four of the seven regular-season games between the teams in 2006, including two of three at Dodger Stadium.

The Mets have have dropped seven of nine, including Sunday’s 15-7 defeat in Detroit.

Starter Tom Glavine was roughed up for nine runs in just 4 1-3 innings as the Mets allowed season highs in runs and hits (21).

Mets third baseman David Wright, who drove in four runs in the NLDS, homered for the fourth straight game Sunday, leaving him one shy of the franchise record set by Richard Hidalgo in 2004.

The Mets will get some help tonight, as outfielder Shawn Green is expected to be activated from the disabled list. Green has been out since breaking his right foot May 25, an injury that put him on the DL for the first time in his major league career.

However, outfielder Moises Alou remains on the DL and left the team Sunday morning to fly back home for an examination on his strained left quadriceps.

The Dodgers (35-28) have also been in a rut. They lost for the fifth time in six games on Sunday, 11-5 at home to Toronto.

Los Angeles didn’t have to deal with Orlando Hernandez (3-1, 1.94 ERA), who starts the opener for the Mets, in the NLDS because the Cuban right-hander did not pitch in the postseason because of a torn muscle in his calf. He went 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA against the Dodgers last season.

Hernandez has been strong recently, allowing only two runs in 26 innings in his last four starts - the last three of which have come after a stint on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder bursitis. He threw six scoreless innings on Wednesday, but the bullpen blew his lead in New York’s 4-2 loss to Philadelphia.

Hernandez has been especially tough on the road, going 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA in four starts.

Overall, opposing batters are hitting just .173 against him.

The Dodgers will counter with Randy Wolf (7-4, 4.03), who lost for the first time since April 30 his last time out, allowing five runs in five innings of Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat in San Diego.

Wolf is 8-5 with a 3.40 ERA in 24 career starts against the Mets, but lost his last two against them.

WILL the bats come alive tonight? Probably not or at least that’s the way it plays out on paper and if they do, it will probably be in the late innings.

In fact while Hernandez is on the mound he could give up NO runs at all coming into this contest with a projected era of -.40 while Wolf comes in with 2.45

Both teams are struggling.

Monday, June 11th (All times eastern)

HOUSTON ASTROS (26-36) AT CHICAGO CUBS (27-34), 8:05 P.M. Probable Starting Pitchers: Houston - Woody Williams (2-8, 5.79) Chicago - Carlos Zambrano (6-5, 5.38)

The Houston Astros and the Cubs will take a break from interleague play tonight, as the two clubs will stop in Chicago to make up a postponed game at Wrigley Field.

The two clubs were supposed to wrap a three-game set on April 11, but the game was postponed due to snow and rain. Houston took the first two games of that set in mid-April to snap a four-game losing streak to the Cubs, who won eight of 15 versus the Astros in 2006.

The Cubs have yet to begin the second stage of their interleague schedule, as they played the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. Chicago took the first two contests of the four-game set before dropping the final two, including Sunday’s 5-4 loss.

The series got testy on Saturday, when Atlanta starter Tim Hudson hit Alfonso Soriano in the first inning. Soriano had homered three times the day before versus Atlanta.

Chicago’s Sunday starter, Ted Lilly, then hit Edgar Renteria in the first inning yesterday, and was warned by home plate umpire Jim Wolf as the benches began to empty. No punches were thrown, but Wolf decided to eject Lilly after all.

The Cubs’ bullpen did the best it could, but Ryan Dempster (1-3) gave up three runs in an inning of relief to take the loss. Michael Barrett and Mike Fontenot homered for the Cubs, who have dropped two straight after winning five of six. Chicago is six games back of Milwaukee in the NL Central, and will host Seattle on Tuesday to continue what is now a seven-game homestand.

Chicago remained without Aramis Ramirez, who is sidelined with left patella tendinitis, though the slugging third baseman was available to pinch-hit.

Carlos Zambrano will try to follow up on an excellent outing last time out. In his first start since his dugout incident with Barrett, Zambrano allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings against the Brewers on Wednesday. He also struck out nine in the 6-2 victory that improved the right- hander to 6-5 on the year with a 5.38 earned run average.

Barrett did not catch Zambrano last week, and is not expected to do so tonight either.

Zambrano, who has alternated wins and loses over his last seven starts, is 8-5 in 19 games (17 starts) versus the Astros with a 2.57 ERA.

Woody Williams will try to get back on track when he starts against the Cubs tonight. Williams pitched well to close out May, besting the Reds 10-2, but was then pummeled at Colorado on Wednesday. The right-hander was tagged for six runs on 10 hits over six innings in an 8-7 loss to the Rockies, falling to 2-8 on the year with a 5.79 ERA.

Williams, who has lost three of his last four starts, is 3-8 in 17 games (16 starts) against the Cubs with a 4.55 ERA.

Houston fell to 3-3 on what is now a seven-game road trip with Sunday’s 6-3 loss to the White Sox. Mark Lamb hit a solo homer for Houston, which had its brief two-game winning streak snapped.

Wandy Rodriguez (3-6) was ineffective in the loss, giving up five runs — four earned — on seven hits. He struck out three and walked one for Houston, which is 7 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Central. The club next hosts Oakland.

NEW YORK METS (36-25) AT LOS ANGELES DODGERS (35-28), 10:10 P.M.

Probable Starting Pitchers: New York - Orlando Hernandez (3-1, 1.94) Los Angeles - Randy Wolf (7-4, 4.03)

The New York Mets are losing their hold on the National League East and will try to rebound tonight when they begin a three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

New York will face the Dodgers for the first time since sweeping the best-of- five National League division series last season. The Mets also held a 4-3 edge in their season series with LA last year and won two of three at Dodger Stadium.

The Mets lost two of three to Detroit over the weekend to start a nine-game road trip and have lost six of their last seven overall as their lead for first place in the NL East has shrunk to 2 1/2 games over the Braves.

On Sunday against the Mets, David Wright homered in his fourth straight game, a three-run shot and ended 1-for-3 to extend his hit streak to 12 games, but it wasn’t enough as the club was blown out by the Tigers, 15-7.

Wright is one game shy of tying the Mets record for consecutive games with a home run. Richard Hidalgo homered in five straight games from July 1-5, 2004.

Carlos Gomez also hit a three-run homer for New York, while Tom Glavine (5-4) had a rough afternoon. The left-hander remains five wins shy of 300 for his career after allowing a career-high tying nine runs and a season-high 11 hits in a season-low 4 1/3 innings.

New York will hope for better pitching tonight from Orlando Hernandez, who will try to continue his excellent recent pitching stretch. Hernandez is just 2-0 over his last five starts despite allowing only three earned runs over that stretch for a 0.82 earned run average.

The right-hander, who is 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA on the season, got a no decision on Wednesday against the Phillies despite pitching six shutout innings. He allowed three hits and four walks over that span in what was an eventual 4-2 loss for the Mets.

Hernandez is 1-1 in three career starts against the Dodgers with a 5.40 ERA.

Randy Wolf will try to get back on track tonight for the Dodgers after having a six-game unbeaten streak stopped last time out. Wolf went 4-0 over that span, but was handed his fourth loss of the season on Wednesday against the Padres. The left-hander yielded five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in five innings of the 5-2 setback.

Wolf, who is fifth in the National League with 80 strikeouts, has made 24 career starts against the Mets, and is 8-5 against them with a 3.40 earned run average.

The Dodgers also dropped two of three over the weekend against the Blue Jays, including an 11-5 setback on Sunday. Luis Gonzalez had a pair of doubles and three RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost five of their last six to fall 1 1/2 games behind San Diego for first place in the NL West.

Jason Schmidt (1-3) had a poor outing, giving up six runs on nine hits over four-plus innings. The veteran right-hander struck out three and walked a pair as the Dodgers fell to 1-2 on their current nine-game homestand.

CHICAGO WHITE SOX (27-32) AT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (32-31), 7:05 P.M.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Chicago - Javier Vazquez (3-4, 4.13) Philadelphia - Adam Eaton (6-4, 5.99)

Jim Thome makes his return to Philadelphia this evening and will lead the Chicago White Sox in the first of three interleague games against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Thome signed a big free agent contract with the Phillies prior to the 2003 season and spent three years in the City of Brotherly Love, including an injury-plagued 2005 campaign. Thome was hampered by back and elbow problems that year, not to mention having to watch the emergence of rookie Ryan Howard.

The Phillies had a dilemma on their hands that year and new general manager Pat Gillick, who replaced incumbent GM Ed Wade, made a deal with the White Sox to send the slugger to Chicago for center fielder Aaron Rowand as part of a four-player deal. Since then, Howard and Rowand have both flourished in red pinstripes, while Thome has become a fan favorite in Chicago.

Thome, who belted 96 home runs over three years for the Phillies, clubbed 42 homers with 109 RBI in his first season with the Pale Hose in 2006. He is expected to play first base in the first two tests of this three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. The White Sox snapped a five-game losing streak with Sunday’s 6-3 win over the Houston Astros in the finale of a three-game series at U.S. Cellular Field.

Paul Konerko homered and starting pitcher Mark Buehrle earned his 100th career victory, as the White Sox won for just the third time in their last 15 games. Konerko finished with three hits, drove in two runs and also scored twice, while Luis Terrero and Juan Uribe added solo homers for Chicago, which is nine games off the lead in the American League Central division.

Buehrle allowed one run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk over eight innings of work. The left-hander had been 0-3 in seven outings since his 99th win on April 23 at Kansas City.

Taking the ball for the White Sox in Monday’s series opener will be Javier Vazquez, who is 3-4 with a 4.13 ERA in 11 starts this season. Vazquez has lost four of his last five decisions, including a June 6 performance against the New York Yankees in which he gave up four runs in six innings of a 5-1 loss.

The right-hander has faced the Phillies 22 times throughout the course of his career and totes a 10-6 record with three complete games and a 4.55 earned run average against them.

Philadelphia is coming off a 17-5 blowout by Kansas City and dropped two of three against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium over the weekend after sweeping the NL East-leading New York Mets on the road.

Starting pitcher Jamie Moyer was roughed up for six runs on seven hits over just 3 2/3 innings and the bullpen was equally poor for Philadelphia. Ryan Madson allowed three earned runs, while Jose Mesa and Geoff Geary were both reached for a pair and Francisco Rosario one run in the losing cause.

Howard hit a two-run homer and Shane Victorino added a solo shot in a losing effort. The Phillies are still five games off New York’s lead in the National League East standings. Atlanta is 2 1/2 games off the top spot.

Philadelphia will send Adam Eaton to the hill this evening and he is 6-4 with a 5.99 earned run average in 12 starts this season. Eaton has won three of his last four decisions and defeated the Mets his last time out on June 6. He allowed a pair of runs through six innings of a 4-2 victory at Shea Stadium.

Eaton will make his first career appearance against Chicago tonight.

The White Sox and Phillies are meeting for the first time since Chicago won two of three games at home during the 2004 season. Before that, the White Sox went 2-1 at Philadelphia in 2002.

Chicago is 102-79 all-time in interleague play, while the Phillies own an 81-94 mark against the American League.

TORONTO BLUE JAYS (30-32) AT SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (28-34), 10:15 P.M.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Toronto - Josh Towers (2-3, 5.15) San Francisco - Matt Morris (6-3, 2.51)

The San Francisco Giants hope to put a run on the board for the first time in three games this evening when they open a three-game interleague set with the Toronto Blue Jays at AT&T Park.

The Giants enter this series on the heels of getting swept by the Oakland Athletics over the weekend, including back-to-back shutouts to close the set, culminating with a 2-0 loss in Sunday’s finale.

Matt Cain (2-6) was the tough-luck loser. The young right-hander surrendered just one run on five hits over eight innings while striking out eight for San Francisco, which has dropped five of six, 12 of 16 and was blanked in consecutive games for the first time since June 22-23, 1996.

Barry Bonds remains stuck at 746 career home runs, nine behind Hank Aaron for first on the all-time list. He ended 0-for-3 with a walk.

San Francisco, which is in the midst of a six-game homestand, has dropped six straight games at home and hasn’t lost seven in a row in San Francisco since an eight-game skid September 7-15, 1993.

Heading to the hill tonight for San Francisco will be veteran right-hander Matt Morris, who has lost two of his last three starts. Morris picked up the loss in his last start on Wednesday, despite a pretty solid outing. Against the Arizona Diamondbacks Morris surrendered just a run on seven hits in eight innings, but was tagged with the loss nonetheless, as he slipped to 6-3 on the year to go along with a 2.51 earned run average.

Morris defeated the Jays in his only other start against them back in 2003 while he was with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Toronto will counter with right-hander Josh Towers, who is back in the rotation in place of the recently released Tomo Ohka. Towers, who has never faced the Giants, was 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA in four starts to begin 2007 before making six relief appearances. He is 2-3 on the season with a 5.15 ERA and earned the win in his last outing on Tuesday with a two-inning relief stint versus the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The Blue Jays took two of three over the weekend from the Los Angeles Dodgers, outscoring their opponents 12-5 over the last two games. On Sunday Troy Glaus had three hits, including a pair of solo homers, and scored three runs as Toronto rolled to an 11-5 win at Chavez Ravine.

John McDonald went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored a pair of runs for the Blue Jays, who have won five of eight.

Roy Halladay (6-2) pitched seven solid innings to earn the win, allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking three. He also had two hits and an RBI in the game.

San Francisco has won five of six from the Blue Jays and swept them in a three-game set at home the last time the teams faced off back in 2004.

SEATTLE MARINERS (33-26) AT CLEVELAND INDIANS (37-24), 7:05 P.M. Probable Starting Pitchers: Seattle - Cha Seung Baek (3-2, 4.91) Cleveland - Paul Byrd (6-2, 3.80)

The Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners will play the second of four makeup games this evening from a series that was postponed entirely by severe weather conditions back in early April.

Cleveland already defeated the Mariners in the first makeup game between these teams back on May 21. Seattle will also visit Jacobs Field on August 30, with the finale to be held at Seattle’s Safeco Field as part of a doubleheader on September 26.

Paul Byrd takes the hill tonight for the Indians, as he gets another crack at the Mariners. Back on April 6 the Indians were one strike away from possibly getting Byrd a snow- shortened no-hitter. However, Seattle manager Mike Hargrove argued that his team could not see, so the game was delayed and eventually postponed.

Byrd has been pretty solid for the Tribe this season, going 6-2 with a 3.80. He enters tonight’s tilt on a losing note, though, as he was defeated by Kansas City in his last start. Byrd allowed four runs and 10 hits over six innings of that one, suffering his first loss since April 21.

The 36-year-old right-hander has faced the Mariners eight times and is 6-2 against them with a 2.29 ERA.

Cleveland dropped two of three to the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, falling 1-0 in 12 innings at Great American Ball Park on Sunday.

The Indians wasted another great performance by C.C. Sabathia. The big left- hander was spectacular tossing nine shutout innings. Sabathia surrendered three hits and walked just one while fanning six en route to the no-decision. Sabathia was vying to become the first pitcher in the majors to win his 10th game of the season.

Casey Blake was 1-for-5 for Cleveland and extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Sabathia was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Seattle, meanwhile, swept the San Diego Padres over the weekend. On Sunday Willie Bloomquist scored the go-ahead run on a Jose Lopez ground out in the ninth inning to lift the Mariners to a 4-3 win at PETCO Park.

Ichiro Suzuki drove in two runs and Jamie Burke went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Mariners, who rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Miguel Batista (7-4) got the win, tossing an inning of one-hit relief. J.J. Putz tossed a perfect ninth, striking out two, for his 18th save in as many chances.

Heading to the hill tonight for the Mariners will be Cha Seung Baek, who is 3-2 with a 4.91 ERA. Baek did not get a decision in his last start on Tuesday against Baltimore, as he surrendered four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings of his team’s 5-4 win.

Baek lost to the Tribe back on May 21 and is 0-2 lifetime against them with a 4.76 ERA in two starts.

Seattle took five of nine meetings with the Indians last season and went 4-2 at Jacobs Field in 2006.

Testimony to Congress Regulated Internet Gambling

June 11th, 2007 · No Comments

tommy mac graffiti wall offshore betting odds wto regulated internet gambling testimonyissues

Craig Pouncey, a partner in the U.K. law firm Herbert Smith and head of the firm’s international trade law practice, provided testimony to the House Committee on Financial Services that the U.S. can come back into compliance with the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) General Agreement on Trade in Services by regulating Internet gambling. Pouncey worked on the case that found that the U.S. violated its agreement between Antigua and the United States because of a prohibition of Internet gaming services from foreign jurisdictions.

“Appropriate regulation of Internet gambling would put the U.S. on a road to resolving the WTO problem,” said Pouncey. “The U.S. would avoid having to offer possibly substantial compensation in the form of opening new markets to foreign competition, and, as a result, affecting possibly numerous other economic players in the US who have absolutely nothing to do with gambling, or the WTO gambling dispute. Further, rather than losing credibility, the U.S. would strengthen the WTO and its legal system, which the U.S. wants other countries, and in particular China, to respect.”

Pouncey added, “The same U.S. that requested, obtained, and applied these economic sanctions vis-à-vis the E.U. is now claiming that it can withdraw commitments without compensation because it did not intend to make these commitments. In my view this is wrong as a matter of law. I am convinced, therefore, that a number of WTO member countries will take the same view and seek compensation from the U.S. I also believe that the U.S. will be asked, as a result, to open up other markets. This will be the price that the U.S. has to pay to avoid…regulation of Internet gambling.”

“The U.S. should regulate Internet gambling and come into compliance with WTO requirements,” said Jeffrey Sandman, spokesman for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative. “Traditional forms of gambling exist in almost every state, including horse racing on the Internet. It does not make sense to pick and choose the gambling activities one should be able to enjoy in the comfort of their home. Congress should give people the freedom to decide whether they want to gamble online and regulate Internet gambling to protect consumers and to stay in compliance with the WTO.”

In 2007, the WTO ruled that UIGEA unfairly targets offshore casinos and found that the U.S. should not be prohibiting foreign operators from accepting bets and wagers online for horse racing while allowing the same bets and wagers to be placed online with domestic companies. Under this ruling, the U.S. would either have to prevent any and all Internet gambling, including horse racing, or agree to let foreign Internet gambling operators do in the U.S. what domestic operators can do or face sanctions. The Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act would bring the U.S. into compliance with the WTO requirements.

The Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative promotes the freedom of individuals to gamble online with the proper safeguards to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of financial transactions. For more information on the Initiative, please visit www.safeandsecureig.org. The website provides a means by which individuals can register support for regulated Internet gambling with their elected representatives.

MLB Interleague Final Scores & Recap

June 11th, 2007 · No Comments

(Sunday, June 10th)

Final Score: Atlanta 5, Chicago 4

Atlanta, GA - Ted Lilly was tossed in the first inning for plunking Edgar Renteria and, though the Chicago bullpen pitched well for the first seven innings, everything fell apart for Ryan Dempster in the eighth, as the Atlanta Braves came back to top the Cubs, 5-4, and earn a split in their four-game set. Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 3-for-4 with a double and a run, and Kelly Johnson homered for the Braves, who have won two in a row, but have lost six of their last nine games. Chad Paronto (3-1) tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, and Bob Wickman picked up his 11th save. Atlanta starter Buddy Carlyle gave up seven hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings, fanning four for the Braves. Michael Barrett and Mike Fontenot homered for the Cubs, who have dropped two straight after winning five of six. Dempster (1-3) gave up three hits, three runs, and walked three in an inning, and also had a wild pitch.

Final Score: NY Yankees 13, Pittsburgh 6

Bronx, NY - Alex Rodriguez homered twice and Bobby Abreu finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three runs batted in, leading the New York Yankees to a 13-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates and a sweep of the three-game interleague series at Yankee Stadium. Rodriguez, who finished with four runs scored, clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth to erase a one-run deficit and added a two-run shot in the sixth. He has four multi-homer games this season and 48 in his career. Abreu stroked a double, a triple and two singles to go along with a walk. Hideki Matsui added two runs batted in and Derek Jeter scored twice for New York, which has won a season- high six in a row and nine of its last 11 to claw within one game of the .500 mark (30-31). Sean Henn (2-0) was credited with the win in two scoreless innings of relief. Yankee starter Tyler Clippard was roughed up for six runs on six hits and three walks in just 3 2/3 innings. Former Yankee Shawn Chacon (2-1) took the loss in his return to the Bronx. The right-hander, who was an important acquisition for New York during the 2005 season, was shelled for seven runs on eight hits in just 3 1/3 innings. Jose Bautista, Jose Castillo and Chris Duffy each drove in two runs for the Pirates, who have lost three straight and nine of their last 12.

Final Score: Detroit 15, NY Mets 7

Detroit, MI - Gary Sheffield fell a double shy of the cycle, ending 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored, as the Detroit Tigers pounded the New York Mets, 15-7, in the finale of a three-game set at Comerica Park. Brandon Inge added three hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in a career-high five runs for the Tigers, who won the final two games of this series after dropping the opener. Omar Infante, Ivan Rodriguez and Sean Casey all drove in two runs apiece for Detroit, which pounded out 21 hits to win for the sixth time in eight outings. Detroit rookie Andrew Miller (2-0) got the win in only his second career start. The left- hander, who was recalled from Double-A prior to the game, surrendered four runs on five hits, striking out five and walking three, in 5 1/3 innings. His veteran counterpart, New York starting pitcher Tom Glavine (5-4), who was making the 649th start of his career, had a rough afternoon. The left-hander remains five wins shy of 300 for his career, allowing a career-high tying nine runs and a season-high 11 hits in a season-low 4 1/3 innings. David Wright homered in his fourth straight game, a three-run shot for the Mets, who have lost six of seven. He ended 1-for-3 to extend his hit streak to 12 games. Carlos Gomez also hit a three-run homer for New York, which is 1-2 on its current nine-game road trip that has the club facing the Dodgers starting on Monday.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 9, Florida 4

Miami, FL - Brendan Harris hit a three-run homer and knocked in a career-high five runs as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays defeated the Florida Marlins, 9-4, taking two of three in the series at Dolphin Stadium. Akinori Iwamura chipped in with two doubles, an RBI and a pair of runs scored, while Raul Casanova hit a solo homer and scored twice for Tampa Bay, which has won two in a row and six of its last eight. Andy Sonnanstine (1-0) pitched seven solid innings in earning his first career major league win for the Devil Rays. The right-hander gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out 10. He didn’t allow a walk and also helped himself with the bat, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, an RBI and run scored. Rick Vanden Hurk (1-2) struggled in the loss for the Marlins, allowing five runs on six hits over five innings of work. He struck out six and walked three. Florida, which got homers from Jeremy Hermida, Miguel Cabrera and Miguel Olivo, has lost two straight after a three-game winning streak.

Final Score: Colorado 6, Baltimore 1

Baltimore, MD - Ryan Spilborghs had a career day, belting a pair of homers and posting six runs batted in to guide the Colorado Rockies past the Baltimore Orioles, 6-1, in the finale of a three-game interleague set at Camden Yards. Spilborghs came into the game with just four home runs for his career, and had only six RBI on the season. He finished 3-for-5 to up his average to .325. Jason Hirsh, meanwhile, broke out of his personal slump in style, tossing nine strong innings of one-run, five-hit ball. Hirsh (3-6) had not tasted victory since April 22, and was 0-5 in his last eight starts coming in. Todd Helton and Matt Holliday each scored twice for the Rockies, who have won four of five. Aubrey Huff knocked in his team’s lone run while Erik Bedard took the loss for Baltimore, which has dropped seven of nine. Bedard (4-4) allowed three runs — two earned — and nine hits over five innings.
