May 10th, 2007 · No Comments

Paris Day At The Beach

Bet33.com Says Paris Hilton Won’t be Granted A Reprieve by the Gov-a-nator of the Golden State.

San Jose, Costa Rica - Socialite Paris Hilton has lodged a campaign to keep herself out of jail and she has asked California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger for a reprieve.

What are the odds of that happening?

Bet33.com (see website here) says he won’t and they have released 1/7 odds of this occurring. In other words, Paris Hilton not getting a pardon is a huge favorite.

Here are the odds as of press time May 10th, 2007:

How many nights will Paris Hilton spend in jail?

· Over 1 ½ 2/3 (favorite) · Under 1 ½ 11/10

Will California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger issue Paris Hilton an official pardon?

· Yes 4/1 · No 1/7 (heavy favorite)

UFC vs. Boxers - A Future Betting Trend?

Oscar Goes Down On Body Shot

UFC vs. Boxers - A Future Betting Trend?

San Jose, Costa Rica - The matchup between Oscar De LaHoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr, last Sat night drew my unmitigated ire and disgust. If you know ANYTHING about boxing, you know this was an utter sham. I was embarrassed for both of them.

I trained off and on with Roger Mayweather from late in the fall of 1994 until the spring of 2001 when I tore my rotator cuff and was not able to spar anymore. Roger and I are like brothers. I can’t say enough good things about Roger. But that’s unfortunately where I draw the line of accolades for this fighting family.

I was working out and training along side Floyd Jr, when he was still a teenager and had just acclaimed his Olympic status in the rarefied air few fighters ever attain. He had great spirit and hadn’t been tainted yet, with all of what was to come his way.

Roger worked unceasingly with him, and had the patience of a Saint. He would take Floyd up in the mountains and have him chop wood and run the hills of the desert. It was an inspiration to anyone around him at that time. His father was no where around, no in fact he was in jail. If it wasn’t for Roger, Floyd’s career would have never gotten off of the ground, it’s just that simple.

What hurts me most, is to see the same lowlife and pimp hustling attitudes coming out in Floyd now that has plagued his father all of his life.

This I can tell you for sure. Floyd fought this fight at about 20-40% effort the entire fight. Going though the motions only to make more deposits on his prepaid hooker cards.

I NEVER was a Golden Boy fan. NEVER was and I’m even more anti-Oscar now. Don’t get me started on this most awkward of all fighters who doesn’t even have enough rhythm to shuffle off the buffalo to an old vaudeville tune let alone dance in one of his conquistador strolling menstrual videos. Oscar was a Bob Arum product and learned his lessons well using all of his behind the OZ curtain tricks to promote not only himself now, but his stable of boxing showmen.

And one more thing Floyd before I forget it. You have the unmittigated GALL to come out with the Mexican colors on your trunks, without the slightest concern or respect for the men and women who’s lives are on the line in IRAQ so you and fitty cent can stink it up with your ghetto bang’n hip hop dribble, when it is their total sacrifice that allow you to do so. But that would require some brain cells, whatever few you have left wouldn’t it?

No, this fight was a joke, and all of the money should be refunded or given away to charity on the count of false advertising. Tell me that 24/7 HBO pre-fight piece was a pilot for comedy central?

The last thing I want to say concerning your performances is this. You may think your names belong next to Leonard, Herns and Haggler, but to my way of thinking you couldn’t carry their jock straps.

But that’s just one mans opinion, who is only considered as a Rodeo clown in this day and age of a boxing circus.

However this circus could actually bring us around full circle to where you are going to have to put up or shut up for the fraud you have perpetrated on the boxing fan public.

That would mean you have to start fighting some UFC fighters.

Kind of brings to mind the ol’ AFL when they first came about and all of the stoic NFL players where jaw waggin’ about them being so superior, and that those AFL players were all a bunch of scrubs. Superbowl IV buried the hatchet on that little puff piece didn’t it?

Enter the UFC, the leading power in Mixed Martial Arts, the fastest growing sport in America and much of the rest of the world.

The UFC seems to be making many in the boxing world feel a little defensive about the integrity of their long and storied sport. Everyone from Floyd himself, all the way down to writers like Mike Freeman from CBS Sportsline, have felt the need to jump to the defense of an aging sport that seems to have lost its punch.

Floyd calls UFC a piece of crap and has said he would give Chuck Liddell, (the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion) a million bucks out of his own pocket if Liddell fought against, and beat, a similarly weighted pure boxer. Of course, he would only agree to promote the fight and guarantee the purse if Liddell agreed to do it under the banner of Mayweather Promotions.

One could realistically assume this is because he understands that he might be an old man before any two boxers would have the drawing power such a match would have.

Freeman’s vindictive anti-UFC columns are entirely laughable, and pretty much reversible. He calls many UFC fighters thugs and ruffians. He is, of course, right. But so are many boxers, which he fails to mention.

Freeman’s anger at the UFC is biased to the point that his diatribes are a blemish on sports writing and an embarrassment to those of us who take pride in our work.

Even a “human cockfighter,” a “former nightclub bouncer, knuckle cracker and parolee” like Chuck Liddell – to use Freeman’s descriptions of UFC fighters - would quickly dismiss Freeman as a joker. Then again, Liddell is actually educated, having an accounting degree from Cal Poly.

Freeman also called Saturday’s fight a “glorious bout,” and waxes fantastical about De La Hoya and Mayweather as if they were holding this fight together as a show of strength and support for the sport they love. Right.

Basically, his whole article is so punch-drunk and one-sided, one must assume he was told to write something that would stir the boxing vs. UFC pot, while boxing still had a stick to stir with.

The parent company of CBS is Viacom, which also happens to own Spike TV, the stepping stone upon which the UFC owes its popularity. Any publicity is good publicity, right? Freeman’s rants certainly did get picked up on by other media, with most – even boxing – publications finding it unrealistic, low-brow and a low blow.

BET ON THE UFC AND BOXING HERE

Some on the boxing side of this UFC vs. boxing argument have but one side. They refuse to even consider the possibility of giving respect to the “fad” fighting sport that is UFC. They are dinosaurs, and this is what they say: “We are better. You guys suck.”

That’s it. Think they would try to back up what they say? I doubt it, that ain’t their style. If you think they have the nerve to actually climb into a ring with a UFC fighter, though, you can bet on that possibility, and the results, in the Bet33.com sportsbook.

UFC President Dana White has offered to have Floyd fight UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, who weighs in at 155 pounds.

Regarding Floyd’s comments about UFC, White had this to say, “”I used to talk like Floyd Mayweather when I was involved in boxing. I talked just like him, until I educated myself about this sport. These guys are amazing athletes, Floyd Mayweather is one of the best boxers ever, (and) Sean Sherk will whoop his ass in under two minutes.”

Mayweather, after his win by split-decision over De La Hoya, apologized to Dana White and the owners of UFC, saying he was only trying to stir hype and that he has full respect for UFC fighters. He also said he has no plans to fight mixed martial arts.

Of course he would say that. He knows he stands a much better chance of getting hurt fighting MMA for five minutes than he does by cycling around the ring with Oscar for 12 rounds. Oh, that last 30 seconds though..was that the real deal??

I mean, come on, people. When the supposed two best fighters in their weight class in boxing both come out of 36 minutes of “fighting” each other and neither has barely a scratch? Those of us not trying to pull the wool over sports fans’ eyes might call it dancing. A UFC fighter might call it napping. Someone looking for an exciting boxing match would not only call it a waste of time, but a fraud and I want my money back by any consumer definition.

So, will Floyd step up to the plate and accept a challenge to fight a UFC fighter? Bet33 oddsmakers have that chance listed at -250. In other words, they think there is a good chance it will happen. I have my doubts.

Just like I don’t think its very likely a “journalist” like Mr. Freeman can write either well, truthfully or objectively, neither do I think it likely that Floyd will ever care to accept a fight in an arena where a real one would actually take place. Why should he, the fix is in b-r-o-ther from another mother!

If you believe White, when he says Floyd will get absolutely destroyed if he accepts White’s challenge, you can get +1000 odds that Mayweather will be knocked out in under two minutes.

I would have to take the NO he won’t be KO’d in under 2 min, but I can tell you this. He would’nt be able to call himself “Pretty Boy” afterwards.

For Pizza tonight TAKE THE BO-SOXS/Wakefield +137 Money

You don’t have to be a capping wizzard to figure this one out.

Jay’s off an 8 game losing streak, made a -146 favorite? When even as a team they are -8.40 money this year and Boston is +10.00 money.

No question Halladay has been a far better pitcher at home where he is tonight than on the road, like his last game in Texas where he severed up 15 runs..and he kept his nickname in tact in the Rangers dugout..as Halladay Sauce!

I expect Wakefield to keep the Jay’s off balance with that unpredictable kuckleball that NO one knows where it’s going as Tim comes in with a projected ERA of 2.75 in this one compared to a balloned …well if I put it here you would only laugh..let’s just say it’s off the charts..

Something is up in this one. It looks to easy. That’s why it’s only for Pizza. None of the big boys are on it.
